CHICAGO — Jimmy Garoppolo’s debut as the 49ers starting quarterback will come with the added protection of right tackle Trent Brown, who missed last week’s game with a shoulder injury.
Ideal weather conditions — 51 degrees, sunny skies at kickoff — also will greet Garoppolo in his return to Chicago. Even though he grew up some 30 miles away in Arlington Heights, Illinois, this is his first trip inside Soldier Field.
Defensively, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (ankle) and safety Adrian Colbert (thumb) are active and should be in the starting lineup.
Out for the 49ers are:
— Defensive end Tank Carradine
— Defensive end Aaron Lynch
— Defensive tackle D.J. Jones
— Linebacker Pita Taumoepenu
— Guard/center Tim Barnes
— Safety Antone Exum
— Running back Jeremy McNichols
Out for the Bears are:
— Quarterback Mark Sanchez
— Defensive back Adrian Amos
— Defensive back Deon Bush
— Defensive back Bryce Callahan
— Defensive back DeAndre Houston-Carson
— Center Hroniss Grasu
— Running back Taquaun Mizzell
This is the third straight season the 49ers are playing at Soldier FIeld on the first Sunday of December, having won in overtime in 2015 but getting trounced 26-6 last year. Colin Kaepernick was 1-of-5 for 4 yards before getting benched after three quarters last season.
Like Garoppolo, Kaepernick’s first start for the 49ers came against the Bears, a 2012 win on “Monday Night Football.”
