The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court's office is now accepting credit card payments for all services at both its Covington and Slidell locations. The agency, which dispenses various public records to citizens, is the only clerk of court's office in Louisiana to take credit cards, according to a news release issued Friday (Jan. 17)
The office will charge a 3 percent convenience fee to offset the cost of the credit card service to the agency. Clerk of Court Melissa Henry sought quotes from several credit card service providers to keep costs to the agency and the necessary convenience fee as low as possible, according to the release.
Major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards will be accepted.
"Our services are all funded by customer fees, and we receive no direct tax dollars," Henry said. "Adding the credit card payment option for consumers will increase convenience for everyone who relies on us."
The clerk of court's office maintains the official records for the parish. The duties of the office include processing and recording all land records and civil and criminal court proceedings for the 22nd Judicial District, as well as issuing marriage licenses, providing copies of birth and death records, and processing passports.
"This might seem like a small improvement, but it will make using our services significantly easier for all our customers," she said. "We're very excited to make this convenience available."
