Red Sox activate Mookie Betts from the disabled list

The Red Sox have been on a tear for most of the year thanks to a stellar pitching staff led by Chris Sale and an offense that seems to score at will. One of the biggest cogs in that offense, along with J.D. Martinez, has been Mookie Betts who led the league in most offensive categories went he went down with an abdominal strain.

The Red Sox have missed having him in the lineup in going 5-5 in their last 10 games after going 39-17 before that. Fortunately, it looks like the Red Sox will have to wait no longer for their star to return.

While all seasons have their ups and downs, it is clear that the Red Sox have suffered a bit since Betts left the lineup. This isn’t particularly surprising, since losing a player that has posted a .357/.437/.750 line with 17 homers and 13 stolen bases in 48 games is bound to hurt any club.

Betts’ return couldn’t have come at a better time as Boston has seen the Yankees jump ahead of them in the standings by a half a game. With a series at the cellar-dwelling Baltimore Orioles, this will be a good opportunity for Boston to at the very least keep pace with the surging Yankees and potentially surpass them in the standings.
